Griffin Brothers is a proud neighbor and contributing member of Lancaster County’s business community.  For over 15 years, we have owned and operated the Mining Road Industrial and C&D Landfill located in Kershaw, SC along with a local farm off of Norseman Road.  Over the past year, our dedication to and awareness of the issues facing local businesses and the community spurred our hard work and interest in growing our business in Lancaster Lancaster County Environmental CenterCounty.  After exhausting all avenues, we determined that the creation of an Environmental Center was the highest and best long-term use for Lancaster County and its citizens.

On December 14th, 2010, Griffin Brothers commenced the first phase of the project through the execution of a Letter of Intent (LOI) with Waste Management to create the concept of the Lancaster County Environmental Center.   The next phase will involve 12-18 months of heavy involvement and interaction for approval from the State of South Carolina’s Department of Health and Environmental Control (SCDHEC).   Along with the development of a future eco-industrial park by Griffin Brothers, the Lancaster County Environmental Center proposes to perform the following:

  • Provide citizens with comprehensive, sustainable waste management and recycling capabilities and production of renewable energy
  • Bring in corporate citizen, Waste Management, to make a $20 million initial investment with the construction of the Lancaster County Environmental Center
  • Through the provision of free disposal services and payment of host fees would provide annual benefits and savings for Lancaster County taxpayers
  • Invest/attract millions of dollars in economic development because of gas to energy infrastructure, which is enticing to businesses looking to be green as shown by the partnership between Waste Management and BMW in the upstate.

Waste Management is the leading provider of comprehensive waste management services in North America serving nearly 20 million municipal, commercial, industrial and residential customers.  Their services include collection, transfer, recycling, resource recovery, disposal services, and production of renewable energy.  The success of the project is ensured by Waste Management’s skill, financial strength, and ability to deliver superior solid waste service, including good environmental stewardship.  They are committed to providing the highest quality service and support to our local community.  If you’re interested in more information about how Waste Management Thinks Green, visit
